House of Culture
Ouest was shortlisted, but not awarded, for the new House of Culture and Social Cohesion in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, a heterogenous neighborhood of Brussels.
The competition's program consists of a social restaurant, cafeteria, polyvalent rooms, concert hall, social housing, etc. The project area concerned two different buildings facing two differents streets: an ancient cinema from the '50s and ex convent school from the beginning of 20th century.
The main idea of the project is to connect the streets, not creating a passage through the building, but from above, using the roof as a public space. On the one hand, the facade of the convent is opened to the street to welcome people, on the other hand, the cinemas funnel-shaped entrance is restored.
